PRESS: Samsung smartphones top sales again in Russia in October

MOSCOW, Nov 22 (PRIME) -- South Korea’s Samsung recovered its top position by smartphone sales in Russia in units with a market share of 34.5% in October, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday, quoting retailers.

Samsung lost its leadership in July–September to China’s Xiaomi, which with its sub-brand Poco had 28.1% in October, according to mobile operator MTS, which also runs a wide retail chain. The U.S.’ Apple’s share amounts to 14.7% and China’s Realme to 7.4% in units.

Electronics retailer Svyaznoy said Samsung had 33% of the market in sales in October and Xiaomi had 22%.

Mobile Research Group analyst Eldar Murtazin said that Samsung’s price policy and stable supplies were behind its success. “The market sees deficit, and the one that has more goods sells more,” he said, adding that Samsung could keep its top position till the end of 2021.

The country’s smartphone market amounted to 67 billion rubles and 2.8 million units in October, which is 23% more in money and “is insignificantly more” in units than a year ago, retailer M.Video-Eldorado said.

According to Svyaznoy, smartphone sales rose by 24% on the year to 67 billion rubles in October, but fell by 4% to 2.7 million units.
